Sending Christmas cards – what to keep in mind?

Christmas is approaching – one of the busiest times of the year. At the end of the year, we review the past year and remember our clients and partners. Therefore, it makes sense to start preparing for sending Christmas cards now, doesn’t it?

Sending Christmas cards – what to keep in mind?

The first thing to consider is who the card is being sent to and what message you want to convey. Is a standard e-card with the usual “Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year” really the best choice? Perhaps it would be worth looking back at the passing year and summarizing its successes or major events. Or maybe announce major plans for next year? A special message certainly feels more personal, and the sender will be remembered. Think for a moment: how many of last year’s Christmas cards do you remember?

What types of Christmas cards can be sent?

Just like with any newsletter, there are countless possibilities for sending e-cards. The most traditional is a Christmas-themed image with well wishes. The image can be customized to match your company’s brand using the same colors and fonts.

Animated images are becoming increasingly popular, and this trend is also reflected in emails. Here is an example of a Christmas card I sent out last year.

Taking it a step further, you can send a video to your clients. Narrative short videos, where a story is told in about 30 seconds, have become very popular. For Christmas cards, this could be a success from the past year or a company event (such as an anniversary, etc.), a plan for next year, or employees’ thoughts on the past year – the more authentic, the better.

Also very popular are so-called cinemagraph images, where a single object moves continuously in an otherwise static image. This could be steam on a cup of cocoa or a candle flame. Some great ideas from the Gallereplay site.

When sending Christmas cards, it is worth remembering that a personal approach definitely gives you a competitive advantage and makes your company feel like a “real” business – where real people work and celebrate successes.

What is the process for sending a card?

The first step involves preparation and information gathering. I want to hear about the past year’s successes and plans for the coming years. We will also discuss previously sent cards and the feedback received from clients. As a result of our communication, we will already have ideas on how to proceed.

Once the initial ideas are in place, I will start creating the card, and you can prepare the recipient list. I will need as much information as the level of personalization requires. For example, if you want to send a message with a greeting like “Hello Sille,” you will need to provide the client’s name. If you do not wish to do so, the e-card can be sent using just the email address.

The time it takes to create a card depends on its complexity. If you want to send an engaging video card but are worried because you don’t have video material – don’t worry! We will discuss your ideas and will certainly find a solution that makes everyone happy.

Once the design is ready, I will set up everything necessary for sending the email – we will confirm the outgoing message and schedule its delivery. It is perfectly possible to set up a card in mid-November to be sent on December 18.

After the email is sent, I will provide a report on its open rate. You will likely have already received great feedback from your clients before the report arrives.

Small steps that will certainly make the end of the year smoother.
