The Christmas season – one of the busiest periods of the year – is fast approaching. At the end of the year, we take stock of the past year and remember our clients and partners. So it makes sense to start preparing now to send out Christmas cards?
Sending Christmas cards – what to keep in mind?
The first thing to think about is to whom is the card being sent and what message do you want to send? Is an ordinary e-card with the usual “Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year” the right one? Perhaps it is worth looking back over the past year and taking stock of the successes or highlights of the year. Or perhaps announce your bigger plans for the year ahead? A special message is sure to have a more personal impact and the sender of the card will be remembered. Think for a moment, how many Christmas cards do you remember from last year?
Which Christmas cards can be sent?
As with any newsletter, there are countless ways to send an e-card. The most traditional is a Christmas-themed picture with good wishes. The image can be customised to your company’s face using the same colours and fonts.
Moving images are becoming more and more popular, and this trend is also reflected in emails. An example is the Christmas card I sent out last year.
A step further, it is possible to send your customers a video. Short narrative videos, where a story is told in about 30 seconds, have become very popular. In the case of Christmas cards, this could be a success story from the past year or a company event (such as an anniversary), a plan for the coming year, employees’ thoughts on the past year – the more direct the better.
Also very popular are cinemagraph images, where an otherwise static image has a single object that moves all the time. This could be steam on a cup of cocoa or a candle flame. Some cool ideas from the Gallereplay page.
When sending out Christmas cards, it’s worth remembering that a personalised approach will definitely give you a competitive edge and make your business feel like a ‘real’ business – where real people work and are happy to succeed.

What is the process for sending the card
The first step is to prepare and gather information. I want to hear about the successes of the past year and plans for the coming years. We’ll also talk about the cards sent out in the past and what the feedback from customers was. As a result of the conversation, we already have some ideas on what to do next.
Once you have the first ideas in place, I will start preparing the card and you can prepare the list of recipients. According to how personal the letter is, that’s how much information I’m expecting. For example, if you want to send a letter with the address “Hello Sille”, you will need to include the name of the customer. If you do not wish to do this, the e-card can also be sent simply with an e-mail address.
The time it takes to make a card depends on its complexity. If you want to send an interesting video card, but you’re scared because there’s no video footage – don’t worry! Let’s talk things over and we’ll find a solution that will make everyone happy.
Once the design is ready, I’ll set up everything you need to send the email – we’ll approve the outgoing email and schedule it to be sent. It’s perfectly possible to set up the card to be sent in mid-November for 18 December.
Once the letter has been sent, I will send you a report on its opening. I’m sure you’ve already received rave reviews from customers before you receive the report.
Small steps that will certainly make the end of the year go more smoothly.
